Respiratory Therapy

Our Respiratory Therapy Program hybrid is an AAS degree and is delivered using a blended online format that includes a combination of synchronous and asynchronous activities as well as on-ground laboratory and clinical experiences. Students complete coursework which includes medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, assessment, equipment, mechanical ventilation, pediatrics, and advanced life support. Upon completion, graduates will have the skills needed to pursue an entry-level career as a Respiratory Therapist in a variety of settings such as hospitals, clinics, physicians offices, healthcare agencies and others.

Nature of the Work

Respiratory Care is the fast paced allied health profession that cares for patients with deficiencies and abnormalities of the cardiopulmonary system. The respiratory therapist sees a diverse group of patients ranging from newborn and pediatric patients to adults and the elderly. Disease states or conditions often requiring respiratory care include asthma, emphysema, chronic obstructive lung disease, pneumonia, cystic fibrosis, infant respiratory distress syndrome, and conditions brought on by shock, trauma or postoperative surgical complications.
